In 2005, we completed almost 150 performances in local schools, serving over 25,000 children. We also visited over sixty colleges and universities, teaching and performing stepping and South African dance.
The United States Embassy brought us to Brazil for a week of performances and residencies, connecting us to a related and vital African-rooted culture. And in January of 2006 Step Afrika was awarded Washington D.C.’s Mayor’s Arts Award for Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education, in recognition of our continued commitment to educating and inspiring District youth.
This is why we need your help. So many requests come in to Step Afrika for performances and we are working to meet the demand. Yet, the realities of school systems already burdened by the increasing costs of education make programs such as ours challenging to fund. Your donation helps keep our programs affordable and accessible. Make your tax-deductible contribution today!
