Step Afrika! is the first professional company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Founded in December 1994 by C. Brian Williams, a graduate of Howard University in Washington, DC, the company is critcally-acclaimed for its efforts to promote an appreciation for stepping and the dance tradition's use as an educational tool for young people worldwide.

Based in Washington, DC, Step Afrika! is DC's first and only "Cultural Ambassador" representing DC and the nation at events around the world through special invitations from American embassies. Step Afrika! reaches tens of thousands of people each year and has performance on many stages in North & South America, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

Step Afrika! completes an annual 50-city tour of American colleges and university from Maine to Mississippi. The company is a model for the use of stepping in educational setting, espousing themes such as teamwork, academic achievement and cross-cultural understanding. Step Afrika! frequently conducts residencies, master classes and performances in schools and community-based organizations around the world.

As part of it committment to education, Step Afrika! developed the Step Afrika! Scholars Program to help offset the costs of college. Step Afrika! Scholars demonstrate a strong committment to higher education and give back to their respective communities and world.

Each year, Step Afrika! will award up to ten (10) $500 scholarships to college students across the USA. In honor of our Founder C. Brian Williams, one of the ten scholarships has been reserved as the Founder's Scholarship for an undergraduate student attending Howard University.
