Deputy Executive Director
As Deputy Executive Director for Step Afrika!, Lamar Lovelace is responsible for external and internal management of the organization’s board relationships, communications and marketing strategy, fundraising and financial operations. Previously, he was the Director of Public Programs and Events for Columbia University’s Office of University Life, producing large-scale, humanities-based programming opportunities to engage students, faculty, and staff. Prior to that, Lamar created arts-based social justice programs and exhibitions at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and managed community-based partnerships and special events for Columbia University’s Office of Government and Community Affairs. He holds Master’s degrees in Arts Management and Oral History from Carnegie Mellon and Columbia, respectively, and a BA in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
